Video footage captured the aftermath, showing bystanders attempting to lift the ambulance off the police outpost, with mangled motorcycles scattered across the scene.A couple on a scooter was killed after a speeding ambulance, its alarm blaring, jumped traffic signal and hit two-wheelers coming from another direction before crashing into a police outpost in Central Bengaluru on Saturday night, police said.
Two persons were injured in the incident.
The ambulance driver, who had fled the site of the accident, was arrested on Sunday. Police confirmed that the ambulance was not carrying any patient at the time of the incident.
The scene played out around 11.15pm on Double Road in Shanthinagar when the ambulance, bearing a sticker of Cloud Nine hospital, rammed into several two-wheelers.
Police said the ambulance was coming from the direction where the signal was still red while the two-wheelers were moving forward following the green signal at their end.
Ismail (40) and his wife Sameen Banu (33), who were on a Honda Dio, died in the incident. Two others, Riyan and Siddiq, were injured and admitted to a hospital where their condition is said to be stable.

Wilson Garden traffic police registered a case under relevant sections and launched a probe. The police said on Sunday that they have tracked down the accused ambulance driver and arrested him.
