Conman claims to represent firm endorsed by PM Modi, cheats Bengaluru businessman of Rs 6 lakh

A conman has cheated a Bengaluru businessman of Rs 6.28 lakh claiming to represent a firm endorsed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The incident came to light after the victim approached the police and filed a complaint on January 27.

The victim has been identified as G Harish Kashyap, 44, a resident of Chikkalasandra. A person claiming to be one Datta Prasad allegedly invited Kashyap and several others to the Gokul Veg hotel in Padmanabha Nagar on October 25, 2023.

Prasad reportedly claimed that he ran an international firm called Senee Traders that invests in new energy projects. He then requested people to invest in the projects.

Thereafter, many people including Kashyap transferred money online to the accounts suggested by Prasad. After a few days, Prasad claimed that the investments fetched high returns but did not return the amount and went incommunicado, the FIR states.

A case has been registered under Sections 66D (cheating by personation by using computer resource) and 66C (identity theft) of the Information Technology (IT) Act and Section 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
