Congress under fire in Karnataka after Surjewala ‘attends’ official meeting on Bengaluru infra
While the BJP questioned Randeep Singh Surjewala’s ‘authority’ to chair the meeting, JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy asked if Karnataka had a government indebted to the Gandhis.

The Congress government in Karnataka has come under attack from Opposition parties after All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala allegedly attended an official meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister D K Shivakumar.
The meeting over improving infrastructure in Bengaluru was held on Tuesday at a city hotel. Shivakumar denied the allegations.
“What is his (Surjewala) capacity or authority to chair the meeting with the BBMP and BDA Commissioners /Officials?” the Karnataka BJP asked in a tweet on Tuesday even as JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy sought to know who allowed Surjewala to hold government meetings.
Shivakumar, meanwhile, said that Surjewala had not chaired any meeting as projected. “(When I was with him) officers had come to take me to the BDA office,” he said.
In a photo posted on Twitter by the Karnataka BJP, Rakesh Singh, the additional chief secretary of the urban development department and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) administrator, and BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath are seen seated. Apart from Surjewala and Shivakumar, Energy Minister K J George, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, Minority Affairs Minister B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan, Naseer Ahmed, the political secretary to the chief minister, and Shivajinagar MLA Rizwan Arshad can also be seen.
“The “secret meeting” held at Bangalore’s Shangri-La Hotel is just another way of ‘Gandhis!’ trying to control Karnataka. The family have sent their close aide Randeep Surjewala, who neither holds any position at BDA/BBMP nor in the government to decide on Karnataka’s matters. What is his capacity or authority to chair the meeting with the BBMP and BDA Commissioners /Officials? Is this where the ‘85% deals’ are being orchestrated by the #ATMSarkara to raise funds ahead of 2024 Elections?” the BJP asked in its tweet.
Meanwhile, Kumaraswamy asked whether Karnataka had a government led by Siddaramaiah or a government indebted to 10, Janpath – Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s residence. “Did Kannadigas vote for the Congress government or for a puppet government?” he asked, adding that the loyalties of the Congress government stood exposed within a month of coming to power.
“There are senior ministers in the meeting! Senior IAS officers are also present!! This means it was an official meeting. But, Surjewala is at the centre seat! Minister is sitting in a seat beside him!! Isn’t it strange? The Chief Minister should answer,” he said.
