Days after a four-year-old boy was allegedly murdered by his mother Suchana Seth, a Bengaluru-based start-up CEO, at a hotel in Goa, his father performed his last rites in Bengaluru on Wednesday morning.
Suchana Seth was arrested on the charges of killing her son in Karnataka’s Chitradurga district while allegedly trying to flee in a cab with his body stuffed in a bag late on Monday.
After the post-mortem examination of his son’s body in Hiriyur in the Chitradurga district, Venkatraman P R, the father of the child, brought it to Bengaluru. The body was kept in an apartment in Rajajinagar where Venkatraman’s parents live.
Dr Kumar Naik, a government doctor who conducted the autopsy, said on Tuesday that the child was killed more than 36 hours ago and he was either smothered or strangulated. “There are no wounds or signs of struggle. There may be the use of a pillow or a wire,” said Dr Naik.
According to a police officer, Seth told them during questioning that she did not kill her son, claimed he was asleep and she did not know how he died.
The police have said Seth married Venkatraman in 2010 and differences cropped up in their marriage after the birth of their son in 2019.
In his police statement, Venkatraman said Seth became possessive of the child soon after his birth, and they started fighting frequently. They separated soon and have not been in touch for the past two years.
A police officer said, “Their divorce proceedings were underway. A recent order by a Bengaluru family court had directed that the father should get custody of the child every Sunday. For the past five weeks, she did not allow her son to visit his father. We believe she had come to Goa on the weekend to ensure that another week passes”.
Seth has been handed over to six days of police custody by a local court in Goa.
