‘Boyfriend’ kills 21-year-old BBM student in Bengaluru over her friendship with another man

The police in Bengaluru arrested a man for allegedly strangling a 21-year-old BBM student in Thammenahalli on the city’s outskirts on November 23.

The accused has been identified as Premavardhan, 31, a native of Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, and an employee of a stock market firm in his hometown. He was said to be in a relationship with the woman, Devisri, who was also from the same region.

The police said that Devisri had moved to Bengaluru after completing her pre-university studies and was living with a friend. Premavardhan frequently visited her at her residence in Thammenahalli, they added.

According to the police, Premavardhan recently grew suspicious about Devisri’s friendship with a man and objected to her chatting with him.

When he visited her on November 23, their disagreement escalated into a violent argument. In a fit of rage, Premavardhan allegedly strangled Devisri before locking the house from the outside and fleeing the scene.

The murder had not come to light immediately. A police officer said that Devisri had made her last phone call to her father on November 22 and spoke casually. When she did not respond to their calls the next day, Devisri’s parents asked her friend to check. On reaching their residence, she found Devisri dead.

The Madanayakanahalli police arrested Premavardhan from Tirupati, where he had got tonsured after the murder.
