The Bengaluru police Tuesday registered an FIR against BJP MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal following a complaint over his “objectionable” remarks against Kannada actor Ranya Rao, who has been arrested for allegedly smuggling gold from Dubai,
The case was filed after Dr Akula Anuradha, a Bengaluru resident, filed the complaint earlier in the day, alleging that Yatnal’s comments were vulgar, disrespectful, and defamatory. As per the FIR, Yatnal made the remarks in Vijayapura while speaking to the media.
High Grounds police have registered a case under Section 79 (insulting a woman’s modesty by using words, sounds, gestures, or objects) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
“Ranya, a multi-language actress, enjoys social respect, and statements like Yatnal’s tarnish her reputation. The complaint further emphasised that such remarks were derogatory and unacceptable,” Anuradha said in the complaint.
A police officer said since the incident occurred in Vijayapura, the case will be transferred there for further proceedings.
