The Bengaluru police arrested a call centre employee for allegedly assaulting an Indian Air Force (IAF) wing commander working with the DRDO following an incident of road rage on Monday.

The police arrested the call centre employee, Vikas Kumar, on the basis of a complaint filed by the wife of the pilot at the Byappanahalli police station.

D Devaraj, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Bengaluru East, said, “We have many videos of the incident shot by bystanders and CCTV footage.”

“One person identified as Vikas Kumar, who works in a call centre, has been arrested. His version of events he has narrated. Based on the FIR… he has been arrested,” the Bengaluru East DCP stated.

A video posted by Wing Commander Shiladitya Bose on social media showed him bleeding from injuries to his forehead and nose.

In the video, Bose stated that he was attacked by the rider of a two-wheeler after an incident involving a car driven by his wife, which was taking him to a bus stop. He alleged that the scooter rider attacked him by calling him an outsider.

Sources, however, stated that CCTV footage of the incident from cameras of private establishments at the site of the street brawl shows that the call centre employee was also beaten by the IAF officer.

According to the police complaint filed in the case by IAF Squadron Leader Madhumita Dutta, the wife of Wing Commander Shiladitya Bose, her husband had to go to Kolkata since his father was undergoing an operation, and she was dropping him off at a bus stop to help him catch a bus to the airport in the early hours of Monday.

The car traveling from the C V Raman Nagar DRDO enclave encountered the two-wheeler near the Old Madras Road, and the two-wheeler rider reportedly forced the car to stop and got into an argument with the two IAF officials. During the argument, the two-wheeler rider allegedly attacked the Wing Commander.

“While commuting to the bus stop one man on Bike… was driving rashly and almost hit our car. Therefore, I was driving and I looked at him. He crossed our car and we moved ahead. However, he turned the bike and had come back… He took a stone and hit my husband on his head. He threatened us by saying ‘You are from DRDO, I can see the sticker. This is Kannada land, I will see you. Just watch what I do’,” Dutta said in her complaint.

“Thereafter, I told my husband to sit in the car. But unknown persons came again from the back and dragged him on to the road. The locals were speaking Kannada and thrashed my husband on the road,” she added.

The police said that no counter complaint of assault had been filed by the call centre employee against the IAF official.
