The Karnataka High Court had stayed the criminal investigation in the case the day before.
The citizens had been booked under sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) pertaining to wrongful confinement, unlawful assembly, and obstruction after the protest walk on February 19.
In a press release after the order, Citizens for Sankey member Kimsuka Iyer said, “We are hopeful that the new Government, who in February, as the opposition, strongly supported us in our efforts to stop the unscientific Sankey Flyover, will officially cancel the unscientific Sankey Flyover and Road Widening project, and put an end to all the unscientific infrastructure projects that had been announced. We urge the government to constitute the BMLTA, and ensure that all solutions to traffic problems are undertaken by mobility experts.”
The group also said the 2021 order that had effectively banned protesting in any area outside Freedom Park ought to be re-examined.
When the FIR was filed, the citizen group had stated, “It is inconceivable that a mere silent walk around a lake by the residents of a community can be interpreted as any crime, let alone such serious ones.”
