A 28- year old software engineer, who is a researcher in a famous IT firm in Bangalore city was arrested by the High Grounds police station on Saturday in connection with a rape case filed by a woman, who is also a software professional. The arrested engineer has however claimed that the woman who has accused him of rape was his wife whom he married a week ago after meeting through a matrimonial site. Police said that the accused has been identified as Shameemraj M Nadaf, a resident of Vasanthanagar in central Bangalore and native of Bagalkot district in north Karnataka. He is the son of a retired police officer Mohinuddin Nadaf. According to the police, a 26- year old woman came in contact with Nadaf through a matrimonial site six months ago and the two decided to become life partners. The families of the couple agreed to the marriage and the two had started living together. She however filed a complaint with the police of rape after Nadaf allegedly refused to marry her following a misunderstanding between them. The High Grounds police registered a case of rape and arrested Nadaf on Saturday. He reportedly told police that he married the victim a week ago and that she had fixed him for refusing to take her to his home. The duo were subjected to medical test and police are waiting for the report for further procedures. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) BR Ravikanthe Gowda said that Nadaf and the victim were married a week ago and the jurisdictional police are verifying whether it is true or false. “The duo came to know each other through a matrimonial site. They got very close and the family members agreed to a marriage. But, meanwhile, some misunderstanding took place between them and he began avoiding her. But, he married her a week ago but did not take her to his residence,'' Ravikanthe Gowda said.
