Not getting paid under Gruha Lakshmi scheme, job applications among over 11k grievances at Karnataka CM’s Janaspandana programme

As many as 11,601 residents from different parts of Karnataka submitted their grievances at the Vidhana Soudha during a Janaspandana programme held by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday.

Among the grievances submitted to Siddaramaiah and other department kiosks, a majority of them were related to the Revenue Department. Complaints of women head of the families, who are yet to get paid under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme (Rs 2,000 every month), applications seeking employment, petitions on assistance for the physically challenged and others were also submitted during the event.

Thursday’s event was the third Janaspandana programme after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah assumed the chair in May 2023. The first was held in January this year. According to Siddaramaiah, 98 per cent of the applications received in the first Janaspandana were disposed of. “Of the applications received today (Thursday), some were resolved here itself and orders were issued regarding the same,” he said.

Though the programme was scheduled from 10 am, Siddaramaiah arrived at the event at 11.30 am. People from different parts of Karnataka had queued up in front of the Vidhana Soudha since the morning hours of Wednesday. The event was expected to last till 6 pm, but came to an end at around 4.30 pm.

Meanwhile, the BJP dubbed the event as a “living example of complete collapse in state administrative machinery”. In a post on X, Leader of Opposition R Ashok said that though the state government had 34 ministers, in-charge ministers for various districts, 34 chairpersons of boards and corporations with Cabinet ranks and other government officials, people had to come to Bengaluru to have their grievances addressed.

“CM Siddaramaiah, you are using the woes of the people carrying applications to gain free publicity. You should be ashamed,” Ashok said.
