Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy held a meeting with vice-chancellors of universities in the state to discuss the integration of emerging technologies into the existing syllabus. Recognising the transformative impact of emerging technologies on the global education system, the CM sought the opinions of the VCs on how the state should respond and adopt contemporary approaches to teaching and learning. He emphasised the importance of equipping students in colleges and universities with the necessary skills to tackle future challenges and emerge as global leaders.
Highlighting the significance of technology in education, CM Jagan Mohan Reddy said, “The world is currently moving towards the fourth revolution through the use of artificial intelligence. Technology can bridge the gap in the education system, and we must explore its potential and incorporate it into our educational framework.” He proposed the establishment of a high-level academic board to spearhead these reforms, including curriculum and examination system enhancements, and expressed the need to implement the transformation from foundation to higher education levels.
Addressing the demographic imbalance and the importance of knowledge and skill impartation, the CM emphasised the need to make improvements in the field of education. He stressed that making the necessary adjustments will yield anticipated outcomes and enhance the nation’s potential to lead globally.“There is a demographic imbalance affecting the entire western world. In our nation, roughly 70% of the population is of working age. We cannot serve as the world leaders, if we cannot impart to them the necessary knowledge and skill. This is a fact. We must thus start making improvements in the field of education. If any kind of adjustments are made, the outcomes will be as anticipated, thus we should consider how we might improve in the educational field,” the CM said.
“There is access to global content. For the benefit of our children, we must connect these content to our use and maximize it. The school system is well-established in the western world with countless verticals. We should work to include more of these verticals in the curriculum in the future to give our kids more options and build their portfolios. The competency of the teaching staff needs to be improved. Technology use ought to be incorporated into the educational system,’’ CM Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy said.
The vice-chancellors of 27 universities who attended the meeting issued a statement proposing the formation of a committee consisting of specialists in emerging technologies and leaders of AI-based start-ups. This committee would recommend the curriculum and establish a timeline for integrating emerging technologies into the syllabus.
