Vadodara Youth Congress leaders submitted a memorandum to District Collector Vijay Nehra on Thursday regarding the rising death toll due to the consumption of spurious liquor in Ahmedabad.

The leaders requested Nehra to ban sale of medicine without prescription and also asked him to keep a tab on those using whitener (correction fluid),which is one of the addictives used by youngsters.

Speaking to Newsline,vice-president of Vadodara Youth Congress Rutvij Joshi said: “While Ahmedabad is bearing the brunt of laid-back attitude of the police, the Vadodara police should wake up. The authorities will have to play an important role in this. There are hookah parlours running in Vadodara without license. The recent incident is not the first one to happen in Ahmedabad; there have been several incidents in the past, where the death toll had gone up to 190 in 1985. A similar incident was reported from Jungadh.”
