Updating farmers with latest agricultural trends to get more yield, optimising resources and expenses, and use of drones in farming: these are among the highlights at a three-day agricultural fair that was inaugurated by Union Minister of Jal Shakti C R Paatil on Saturday at the Navsari Agricultural University. He was accompanied by Gujarat Agricultural minister Raghavji Patel, among others. Paatil also inaugurated and laid the foundations of development projects of the Road and Building Department of the state government at Tankal village in Navsari.
“People earn wealth through hard work with the intention that their seven generations would not face any financial problems. Similarly, water is also an important resource, and it should be saved for our future generations. Earlier, our forefathers saw creeks flowing without interruption. Now, we see water given in bottles to the guests, but if it is not saved, a time will come when water will served in capsules,” said Paatil, sounding a warning on possible shortage of water in future.
He further added, “Under PM Narendra Modi’s appeal from “Karmabhumi to Janmabhumi”, people from Rajasthan settled in Surat have given commitment to dig 1.40 lakh bores in different villages in Rajasthan. The cost of a single structure is around Rs 40,000. Surat is “karmabhumi” and Rajasthan is their “janmabhumi” and they have started working on it.
Meanwhile, Gujarat Agricultural minister Raghavji Patel said, “Farmers’ welfare is the priority of the state government, and our government has fulfilled the promise of compensation for crop damage given to the farmers of the state.”
The Minister said that a total of Rs 1,372 crore has been given to more than 7.15 lakh farmers affected by the heavy rains that occurred from July to September last year. He assured the farmers that the government will soon announce assistance for the damage to the paddy crop in the areas of South Gujarat including Navsari.
Mentioning several farmer-oriented decisions like relief in electricity bills, easy and quick power connection installation, quick assistance for crop damage, he linked the prosperity of the state and the nation with agricultural prosperity. He asked the farmers to follow the path of economic prosperity through water conservation.
Paatil also inaugurated a rainwater harvesting unit at the NAU. On this occasion, both the ministers also released a booklet related to Agro Textiles. Farmers will be given detailed information about various subjects and technologies. In addition, a demonstration of fertilizer spraying with the help of drone technology will also be given in this fair. In addition, more than 120 exhibition stalls have been set up to provide information about the scientific method of crop production as well as various welfare schemes for farmers.
After the NAU event, Paatil participated in another event of inaugurated and laid foundation stone of expansion of different roads in the Navsari district on Saturday. The event was organised by state Road and Building department. Among these projects, Rankuva to Karanjveli village road which has width of 10 meters, has been expanded to four late road. The road stretch is of 38.40 kilometers. Under this road stretch, four major and nine minor bridges will be built in a period of two years. The project is expected to cut down the number of accidents.
Addressing the gathering, Paatil said, “Here in Gujarat, there is a triple engine government, and the development work done in Gujarat directly reaches the last person. There is no state in the country which meets the development done by triple engine government in Gujarat (Centre, State and local body). The role played by third engine (local self government body), by letting the development works at end level in the villages and district.”
He shared the details that Chikhli village became the first village in the country under Adarsh Gram Yojana launched by the PM in 2014, wherein 32 different types of facilities were provided to the people. Over 100 bore works had been done in Chikhli by for rainwater harvesting through people participation. He appealed to save the water and not to waste it.
He also further shared details about 15,000 bores work in Madhya Pradesh will be done by businessmen who had taken responsibility and the work on it is in progress. Similarly in Bihar, the bore structure work is in progress in 10 districts.
