‘War material’ seized at Kandla port

Seven containers loaded with “war materials” have been seized by the customs department at Kandla port in Gandhindham of Kutch district on Saturday. The preliminary investigation has revealed that importer had declared it has heavy scrap.

Sources in the custom department said all the seven containers have been seized when their inspection of cargo vessel hired by M M Alloys,a Rajasthan based firm,revealed that imported scrap was probably used war materials like rocket launchers and cartridges.

There were total seven containers in the vessel that came from Kuwait. The department sources said containers have been seized for two reasons.

One,it was declared as heavy scrap by importers. Secondly,now inspection need to be done to verify that all the material is dead and there is no live arms or ammunition.
