Voter turnout of 97.48% recorded for Amul Dairy elections

A voter turnout of 97.48% was recorded for the election to the Board of Directors of the Kheda District Milk Producers Cooperative Society (Amul Dairy) in Anand, on Wednesday.

The elections were held for eight of the 12 blocks and one seat of an individual member.

The polls, which began at 9 am and ended at 3 pm, have close to 900 voting members. Held every five years, Amul elections are meant to be a high-stakes political battle for both the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Opposition Congress as they provide influence over the rural base of cattle rearers and voters to the parties that are in dominance in the Amul Dairy cooperative.
