Preparation of a detailed project report (DPR) is under way for 400-km Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway, the government said on Tuesday.

“Feasibility study of Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway has been completed. The DPR preparation is in progress,” Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Tushar A Chaudhary told the Rajya Sabha. Chaudhary said appointment of a developer for execution of the project would take place after completion of DPR and land acquisition.

The project is part of government’s plans of building over 1,000 kms of expressways on public-private-partnership (PPP) mode under its flagship road building programme NHDP,entailing an investment of Rs 16,680 crore.

Feasibility study of the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway was to be completed by October 2009. However, there were delays as in course of feasibility study additional length of about 94 km had to be added for connectivity between NH-4 and JNPT within outer Mumbai region in Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, affected Gujarat farmers are opposing land acquisition for the Expressway saying, demanding a better compensation package under various provisions instead of an acquisition under the National Highway Authority of India Act.
