Vadodara Municipal Corporation reports two cases of cholera

The civic body said that a 45-year-old woman from the Hathikhana had tested positive for cholera while on Thursday, another case was reported from Ganesh Nagar.

The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) on Friday reported two confirmed cases of cholera in the city.

The civic body said that a 45-year-old woman from the Hathikhana had tested positive for cholera while on Thursday, another case was reported from Ganesh Nagar.

With 27 patients being treated for suspected cholera, the VMC health department said it has sent five fresh samples for tests to government laboratories.

VMC Medical Officer for Health, Dr Devesh Patel, told The Indian Express that the civic body has temporarily cut off water supply in the two areas. “Following the confirmation of the two cases at Ganesh Nagar and Hathikhana, the water supply department has begun repairing the contamination in the water network. The supply has been temporarily disconnected and water is being supplied to these areas through a tanker…”

Patel further said that though the results of the samples sent to the government laboratory were received on Thursday and Friday, respectively, the two patients had already received treatment for cholera by then at the hospital.

“The cases are about a week old… As the test results take about five days, by then the patient would have also recovered… Suspected patients are treated for cholera while the report is awaited. In regard to these two cases, we have not come across any immediate contact or anyone in the neighbourhood who has contracted cholera,” he added.

The VMC on Friday also reported 48 positive cases of acute diarrheal disease, 454 suspected cases of typhoid and 311 suspected cases of viral Hepatitis A and E.
