Two toddlers were injured in separate incidents of stray dog attack in two days in Surat. In one incident, a two-year-old girl was attacked by stray dogs on the premises of Kapodra police station where her parents had come to lodge a complaint Tuesday night.

According to the police, Rajkishor Gupta, a resident of Nana Varachha area, was at the police station with his wife and two daughters, Nikki (4) and Shrushti (2), to register an offence against his nephew in an assault case.

The children wandered out to the police station premises as their parents were lodging the complaint when a couple of stray dogs attacked Shrushti on her head and right hand. Nikki’s cries alerted the police and her parents who turned up at the spot and rescued Shrushti. The minor who was rushed to SMIMER hospital received stitches and is learnt to be stable.

“The girls were playing in the police compound and it was dark (when the dogs attacked). We have decided to place a barricade on the main gate of the police station to prevent entry of stray animals,” said Kapodra Police Inspector M B Ashura.

In the second case, the attack happened when two-year-old Shivansh, son of Vijay Ram, was playing outside his house with his friends in the Parvatgam area on October 2 afternoon. The child was rescued by local people who spotted the incident.

The child was immediately rushed to New Civil Hospital where he received seven stitches on his head. He was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday afternoon.

“People in our residential area are scared to go out because of stray dogs. I wish some action is taken to tackle the stray dog issue in Surat city to ensure that no other child falls victim again,” Vijay Ram told The Indian Express.
