World Heritage Week: Tourism facilities worth Rs 255 crore being developed in Vadnagar, Dholavira
The Gujarat government is also focusing on restoring forts like Uparkot Fort in Junagadh, Rajmahal in Amreli, and Lakhpat Fort in Kutch.

Tourism facilities worth Rs 255 crore are being developed in Vadnagar of Mehsana and Dholavira of Kutch district, said Gujarat government in a statement on Sunday on the penultimate day of World Heritage Week, which kicked off on November 19.
According to the statement, “Vadnagar, a historical heritage site and the birthplace of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been a key focus area for the Gujarat government. Recognising its cultural and historical significance, the state government has spent Rs 70 crore over the past three years to develop modern tourism amenities in Vadnagar. The number of visitors to Vadnagar has seen a remarkable growth from 2.45 lakh in 2022-23 to nearly 7 lakh in 2023-24, a nearly threefold increase.”
It added, “Similarly, Dholavira, a UNESCO-declared World Heritage Site representing the Indus Valley Civilisation, has also seen significant investments. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the Gujarat Government has planned tourism development projects worth Rs 185 crore for Dholavira, with Rs 76 crore worth of projects under Phase 1 currently underway. Once these facilities are completed, tourist numbers are expected to grow further. Visitor numbers at Dholavira more than doubled from 1.41 lakh in 2022-23 to over 2.32 lakh in 2023-24.”
The heritage sites in Gujarat are being developed at a total cost of Rs 428 crore, the statement read. As per the statement, other heritage tourism sites of Gujarat like Modhera Sun Temple, Rani ni Vav and Adalaj ni Vav are gaining popularity among tourists.
