Teachers’ Eligibility Test for upper primary schools held after 5 yrs
Over 2.3 lakh candidates appear, Ahmedabad sees highest absenteeism among eight cities

After a gap of five years, the Teacher Eligibility Test or TET-2 was conducted across eight cities on Sunday. With 2,37,760 candidates – of a total of 2,76,066 applicants – appearing for the test, an overall attendance of 86 per cent was registered.
In 2018, when the TET-2 was conducted the last time, over two lakh candidates appeared. TET-2, which is usually conducted annuallly, was not held for about five years despite repeated demands.
The examination was conducted in three languages – Gujarati, Hindi and English – across 926 examination centres. Among these centres, while Ahmedabad recorded the highest number of candidates who missed the exam, Junagadh reported the least.
Over 83 per cent candidates appeared for the exam in Ahmedabad. In Junagadh, the figure stood at 90 per cent.
The exam is conducted by the State Examination Board for the posts of primary teachers or vidyasahayaks in upper primary government schools for Classes 6-8.
General category applicants have to score a minimum of 60 per cent (90 marks out of total 150).
Reserved categories have to score at least 55 per cent or 82 marks.
To improve the scores, applicants can take the exam again. There is no restriction on the number of attempts.
Applicants can take both TET-1 (for Classes 1-5) and TET 2-for posts meant for Class 1-5.
