One more person in Surat died of swine flu on Wednesday. Seema Bahadur Gupta (28),a resident of Sanidhya township in Surat district,had been suffering from cold and cough for the last few days. She died at the New Civil Hospital of Surat.

Her swab samples,which were sent to the B J Medical College,Ahmedabad for testing,confirmed her as H1N1 positive on Wednesday evening.

Seema was initially taken to a private hospital in Kim by her relatives,and later,as suggested by Primary Healthcare Centre officials,she was shifted to the NCH on Tuesday.

The victim’s family members,including her husband Rambahadur Gupta and two children,have been quarantined,said sources.

The family has reportedly migrated from Uttar Pradesh.

District Health Officer Dr V K Gupta said,“We tried our best to save her but she came when her condition was acute.”

Hospital sources said blood samples of one more suspected patient has been sent to the B J Medical College,Ahmedabad. According to NCH officials,the hospital has recorded 165 suspected swine flu cases in the last few weeks,of which 24 had turned out to be positive.

A doctors’ team from the B J Medical College had recently visited the microbiology department of the NCH.
