Surat: Six arrested for selling adulterated shampoo, face cream, tobacco products with fake labels

Six people have been arrested in Surat for selling adulterated shampoos, face creams, and tobacco products with fake labels of big brands, police said on Wednesday. In a raid at a godown in Olpad town, raw and finished products and packaging machinery worth Rs 50.16 lakh were seized, officials added.
The accused have been identified as Abdul Hafiz Hiragal, Intekhab Ahmed, Manoj Kumar Yadav, Sandeep Yadav, Rahul Sonkar. and Sunil Nishad. Inspector C R Jadav said, “We have arrested six people involved in running the entire racket. They had kept the godown on rent for the last couple of months and were involved in manufacturing adulterated shampoo, gutkha, and face creams. They were selling it to different shopkeepers in different villages at cheaper rates.
“The entire racket is run by Abdul Hafiz Hiragal. We are trying to dig out more information from him and find out who others are involved in the racket,” he added.
A complaint in this connection was lodged by one Hiren Patel, a resident of Ahmedabad and proprietor of an Intellectual Property Rights service company. Police registered the offence under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 272 (adulteration of food or drink intended for sale), 273 (sales of noxious food or drink), 420 (cheating ), 482 (punishment for using false property mark), 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy).
Accompanied by Hiren Patel, officials carried out raids at a godown in Chand Industrial society at Masma village. Police seized raw materials used for making branded shampoo, partly manufactured shampoo and packed shampoo bottles, and pouches of different companies. Face creams of different brands.
The team also seized unprocessed gutkha pouches and packed gutkha pouches of branded companies and also tobacco of different branded companies all amounting to Rs. 50.16 lakh.
