Surat man lures back runaway daughter,burns her to death

As per details,Rubina Shaikh was in love with 22-year-old Javid Shaikh,a neighbour,and wanted to marry him. Rubina’s father Mohammed Burhan Shaikh,a grocery shop owner,was against their relationship and had been asking her to end it. He had even rebuffed Javid’s parents who had tried to convince him to agree to their marriage.

Left with no choice,Javid and Rubina decided to elope and get married. Five days ago,they fled to Aurangabad in Maharashtra,where Javid hailed from,and started staying at one of his relative’s house.

Burhan Shaikh along with his two sons searched for Rubina but after failing to locate her,he enquired about Javid and learnt he too was missing. A furious Burhan then told Javid’s father Shaikh Yusuf that he and his family members had decided to accept Javid as their son-in-law. Burhan told him he would arrange for their wedding as soon as they came back to Surat.

On Monday morning,Javid and Rubina landed at a relative’s place in Surat. Burhan asked Javid to send Rubina home since his wife Seema wanted to see their daughter. Javid left Rubina at her home in the afternoon and left.

According to police,Burhan first beat up Rubina and later poured kerosene on her body and set herself ablaze. Seema tried to save her daughter but failed to stop her husband,who later dragged her out of the house and fled the spot.

Seeing flames coming out of their the house,neighbours informed the fire brigade,which doused the fire and found Rubina’s body in the front room of her house. Khatodara police also rushed to the spot and later sent the body to New Civil hospital for post mortem.

After being informed,Javid and his father also rushed to Burhan’s house. Javid fainted and had to be rushed to a private hospital,where he was said to be fine now.

Khatodara police inspector C K Patel said Burhan Shaikh had been arrested and had confessed to his crime. “Both of Burhan’s sons were out when the incident took place. We are questioning Burhan’s wife. Rubina’s marriage was fixed for Monday.”
