A diamond artisan who suffered burn injuries in a fire at a jewellery factory in Surat died on Wednesday night while three others are still in critical condition. Fourteen artisans were injured on Tuesday when a flash fire broke out at the R V Ornament Factory at Katargam on Tuesday.
The fire was said to have broken out in a gas burner following leakage.
The injured artisans were rushed to a private hospital where 10 were discharged after the primary treatment. The artisan who died has been identified as Nawab Shaikh (24). He had suffered 90 per cent burn injuries. Katargam Police had lodged an accidental death complaint into the death of Nawab Shaikh, who hails from West Bengal and was staying in Surat since last one year.
Sources said that they are also probing to find out the negligence in the part of the factory owner which had led to the incident.
Katargam fire officer Ramesh Sailor said that there might be leakage in the gas supply line which might have led to the fire incident in the diamond factory.
Another incident of factory fire was reported on Thursday.
