‘Sparkle 2024’: Three-day international gems exhibition starts today
The event comes at a time when the diamond industry in Surat is facing a slump and could boost the sector, according to the stakeholders.

Over 50 jewellers from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and other parts of the country will take part in the ‘Sparkle 2024’ — an international gems and jewellery exhibition to be held in Surat from Friday.
The event comes at a time when the diamond industry in Surat is facing a slump and could boost the sector, according to the stakeholders.
The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) organises the event annually to promote plain and diamond studded jewellery. This year, the three-day event will be held at Pandit Dindayal Upadhyay Indoor Stadium of Surat Municipal Corporation in Athwalines. The jewellery items to be displayed during the exhibition include fusion jewellery, polki uncut, heritage, Bikaneri, Rajwadi, Nawabi and bridal collection. Union Jal Shakti minister CR Paatil’s wife Gangaben Patil along with Bollywood actress Esha Deol will inaugurate the exhibition.
Sharing details of the exhibition, SGCCI president Vijay Mewawala said, “This exhibition will benefit the NRIs who have arrived in Surat and also the local people who have upcoming weddings at their homes. The visitors will also get a chance to see separate wedding jewellery items in this event.”
He said, “This year the event will be B2C (Business to Customers). Presently, the diamond industry is passing through a recession and such an exhibition will give a boost to the industry. Jewellers from Bikaner, Jaipur and Mumbai among other places are participating in the event.”
Vice President of SGCCI, Nikhil Madrasi, said, “We are expecting a good footfall in the event. Our teams are using different mediums to reach out to people to create awareness about the event.” The first ‘Sparkle’ event, organised in 2009, was inaugurated by then Gujarat Chief Minister and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The event takes place every two years. The ‘Sparkle 2022’ had recorded a footfall of over 8,000 with buyers from different parts of the country and also NRIs from The United Kingdom, USA and European countries. This year the organisers are expecting 10,000 participants, including the NRIs.
One of the attractions for this year’s event is a creation by a Surat-based jeweller who has made a statue of PM Modi. The statue, weighing 3.75kg, is made of pure silver and took three months and effort of eight labourers to finish.
