Son of carpenter tops among 1,355 commerce students of SMC-run Suman schools

Among the 1313, 81 students scored over 90 per cent. The topper among commerce students was Suthar Shivam, the son of a carpenter, who scored 96.28 per cent. The daughter of a security guard, Roshni Sonawne, scored 94.71 per cent.

Among the 1,355 commerce students from Surat Municipal Corporation-run Suman schools who sat for the Class XII general stream exams under the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, 1,313 cleared the exams.

Among the 1313, 81 students scored over 90 per cent. The topper among commerce students was Suthar Shivam, the son of a carpenter, who scored 96.28 per cent. The daughter of a security guard, Roshni Sonawne, scored 94.71 per cent.

SMC Deputy Commissioner Meenaben Gajjar, who looks after Suman schools said, “Five students have scored over 95 per cent while the topper is Suthar Shivam with 96.28 per cent marks. It is very satisfying… and we are making all efforts to get more facilities for the students.” Among the 18 Suman schools in Surat, six have a 100 per cent success rate, she added.

Roshni Sonawne, a Marathi medium student, is a resident of Limbayat. A student of municipal school since Class I, she had scored 88 per cent in her Class X Board exams. Her father works as a security guard in a residential society and earns Rs 10,000 per month.

“I am the only child of my parents, who are uneducated. I did not expect such results but I believed that I would get 90 per cent marks. I am thankful to my teachers and my family. My maternal uncles also helped my family financially for my studies,” she said.

She dreams of cracking Gujarat Public Service Commission exams.

“I want to become an officer in the revenue sector. My motive is to become a successful and help my parents financially.

They have taken a lot of pain and I want to make them happy, giving them a stable life,” she added.

Son of a diamond polisher, commerce student Ruchit Wariya, has scored 95.42 per cent. A student of Gujarati medium Suman school number 3 at Katargam, he scored 100 marks each in Accounts, Statistics, Economics and BA papers. He had scored 89 per cent marks in the Class X board exams.

Ruchit, whose father Rameshbhai earns around Rs 20,000 per month, wants to become a chartered accountant.

“I faced problems in studying in our one-room and kitchen house, so I studied at the SMC-run library… My father says he will provide all facilities to

make my dream come true of becoming a chartered accountant,” he said.
