Gujarat Chief Bhupendra Patel (File Photo)Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel Thursday laid the foundation stone of houses for providing temporary accommodation to labourers at a token rent of Rs 5 per day under the Shramik Basera scheme.
The CM attended a function at a site in Jagatpur of Ahmedabad. Similar functions were held at 17 sites across Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Vadodara and Rajkot Thursday.
Once completed, the 17 sites will provide rented accommodation facilities to more than 15,000 construction labourers.
An official release stated that the state government is planning to construct similar accommodation facilities for three lakh construction labourers across the state in the next three years at the cost of Rs 1,500 crore.
While the token rent for every labourer is Rs 5 per day, it will be free for the children of labourers upto six years.
