Post-monsoon rainfall for more than five days due to a depression in the Arabian Sea has resulted in a major shift in temperatures in Gujarat.
An analysis of both maximum and minimum temperatures in the state revealed that while the maximum temperatures dropped to as low as nearly 10 degrees below normal, the minimum temperature rose to nearly 5 degrees above normal on Friday morning.
Though there is no orange alert for Saturday, IMD has issued a heavy rainfall forecast for Bharuch and Surat in the southern region; Amreli and Bhavnagar in Saurashtra.
For November 2, light thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and surface wind (30-40 kmph) accompanied with light-to-moderate rain across the state is expected.
Barring Naliya (31.5 degree Celsius) in Bhuj, all centres were below 30 degrees Celsius. While the maximum temperatures ranged between 25.5 to 29.5 degrees Celsius, the minimum temperature was between 20.5 to 24.5 degrees Celsius on Friday.
“The temperatures are low no doubt in the month of October in the state which is not such a common phenomenon,” India Meteorological Department (IMD) Ahmedabad regional director AK Das told The Indian Express.
On Friday, 54 talukas reported rainfall between 6 am to 4 pm, Rajula and Jafradbad in Amreli received 45 mm and 23 mm, respectively, Gandevi in Navsari 24 mm, Vapi in Valsad 21 mm and Talaja in Bhavnagar 20 mm.

A difference of four-to-five degrees in maximum and minimum temperatures across the state has been another uncommon phenomenon on Friday.
“The night time temperatures have not declined as the day-time temperatures due to clouding, which does not allow radiation to pass. Due to clouds even in the daytime, night-time temperatures remain high,” Das told The Indian Express.
