Six unidentified robbers struck at former Congress MLA Dhirubhai Chavda’s home on Monday evening and beat up his 13-year-old grandson.

Six unidentified robbers struck at former Congress MLA Dhirubhai Chavda’s home on Monday evening and beat up his 13-year-old grandson. They decamped with Rs 11.05 lakh cash and jewellery worth Rs 7.5 lakh.

According to the Kheda police,the incident occurred when most of the male members of the family,including the complainant,Vijay Chavda,were not at home. The robbers were armed with swords,country-made revolvers and sticks.

Senior Inspector S S Malvi said: “According to the complainant,the accused attacked after Chavda and he left home to attend a meeting,while the complainant’s wife and son,along with the other women relatives were at home. The complainant said the accused stormed inside the house and tied up his son,threatening to kill the boy if they did not open the safe. They took away gold and silver jewellery worth Rs 7.5 lakh belonging to the complainant’s wife along with expensive housewares worth Rs 25,000 and two mobile phones,” said .

The officer added that prima facie evidence shows that it is the handiwork of one of the chaddi-baniyan dhari gangs operating in the region.

“The complainant’s house is located on the outskirts of Kheda town in Hariyana locality,which is close to the Kheda Bridge. The accused took advantage of the secluded location of the house to organise the loot. We will arrest the accused soon,” added Malvi.
