Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Prem Chand Bairwa Friday condemned the recent remarks made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on scrapping reservation while alleging that the Congress “never showed the will to implement the basic principle of reservation contained in the Constitution”.
Bairwa was addressing a press conference in Ahmedabad on the issue along with Scheduled Caste Morcho president, Gujarat BJP, Gautam Gediya.
During his recent visit to the United States, Gandhi had — in a reply to a question — said that “Congress will think of ending reservation… when India is a fair place.
And India is not a fair place”. A party statement quoted Bairwa as saying that by “abrogating Article 370 and 35-A, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has provided social justice to the people of Scheduled Castes in Jammu and Kashmir”.
Bairwa said, “During his recent tour of America, Rahul Gandhi said that they will scrap reservation.”He added that it was the same tune that Gandhi’s family has been “reciting since the time of the then PM Jawaharlal Nehru”.
Bairwa said that Congress ruled the country for many years, but celebration of Constitution Day started in the country after Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister. Similarly, Congress did not express the will to confer Bharat Ratna on Babasaheb Ambedkar and it was done only in 1990 with the efforts of BJP leaders Atal Bihari Vajapayee and Lal Krishna Advani. ENS
