Rain lashes 181 talukas, Gujarat records 128.24 per cent average increase

Central districts and parts of Saurashtra also received heavy rainfall on Wednesday and Thursday.

Talukas including Kadi in Mehsana, Kavant in Chhota Udepur and Prantij in Sabarkantha received 60 mm each.

On Thursday, from 6 am till 6 pm, 135 out of the total 251 talukas continued receiving rainfall. These include Ghogha (103 mm) and Bhavnagar (80 mm) talukas in Bhavangar, Kodinar (64 mm0 in Gir Somnath, Sihor (63 mm) in Bhavnagar, Umergaon (51 mm) in Valsad, Khergam (50 mm) in Navsari, Mahuva (49 mm) and Palitana (49 mm) in Bhavnagar, Jafrabad (44 mm) in Amreli Gir Gadhada (44 mm) in Gir Somnath, Mehsana (42 mm), Maliya Hatina (40 mm) in Junagadh, Talaja (40 mm) in Bhavnagar, Pardi (35 mm) in Valsad, Bhiloda (35 mm) in Aravalli, Vapi (30 mm) in Valsad and Bhavnagar 29 mm.

According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) Gandhinagar rainfall data, Kutch received highest rain share 183.32 per cent this season while South Gujarat recorded 133.54 per cent followed by Saurashtra 131.59 per cent, East Central Gujarat 126.04 per cent and North Gujarat 109.04 per cent.

The rainfall activity in the state is attributed to the cyclonic circulation over Madhya Maharashtra.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued forecast of very heavy rains for districts of Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Valsad and Bhavnagar on Friday along with heavy rains in Panchmahal, Dahod, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi and Navsari; in the districts of Saurashtra namely Amreli, Gir Somnath.

Other parts across the state are also expected to receive light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm and lightning and surface wind 30- 40 kmph (in gust).

On Saturday too, heavy rains are expected in the districts of Surat, Navsari, Valsad and Bhavnagar.
