The scheduled visit of Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi to Gujarat was cancelled at the last minute reportedly due to bad weather in Delhi, which grounded his flight.

Gandhi, who was scheduled to attend the ongoing 10-day training session of District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents in Junagadh district is now expected to attend the concluding session on Friday, though a confirmation is still awaited.

According to information, Rahul Gandhi was scheduled to board his flight from Delhi on Thursday afternoon and reach Keshod Airport in Junagadh around 1 pm. He was to attend the second phase of the training session of Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan of the newly-appointed DCC chiefs on Thursday. It would have been his second visit to Gujarat in the last one week. Earlier, he had attended the training session on September 12, the third day of the 10-day camp, which was inaugurated by INC President Mallikarjun Kharge at Prerna Dham Ashram in Junagadh on September 10. This is the second and longest training camp of the Congress under the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan. The first such three-day training session was launched by Rahul Gandhi in Anand district last month.

Confirming Rahul Gandhi’s changed schedule, Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Amit Chavda said, “Due to bad weather in Delhi, his flight got delayed at the last moment and thus his visit got cancelled”.

“We have requested him to attend the concluding session on Friday. Once his visit is confirmed, it will be announced by the party,” Chavda added.

From Keshod Airport, Rahul Gandhi was scheduled to reach the venue by road and was to spend around three hours with the DCC presidents and hold discussions on the roadmap for Gujarat 2027 assembly elections. Gandhi is expected to hand over the performance report cards to DCC presidents on Friday. The campaign is to empower the DCC presidents to strengthen the organisation at the grassroot level through sustained public outreach and exploring avenues to build the cadre, said party leaders.

With Gujarat being the major focus for Congress, the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan was launched from the state in April. Similar intensive training sessions will be conducted in other states in the future under the Sangathan Srijan campaign, party leaders stated.
