Pre-monsoon rains cool parts of state

Pre-monsoon rains continued in various parts of the state for the third consecutive day,with Surat receiving the highest rainfall (68 mm) on Friday.

According to the Meteorological Department,light and isolated rainfall would be determined by localised cloud formations till June 15,when the monsoon is expected to hit Gujarat. The department has predicted “light to moderate” rain or thundershowers at isolated places in all districts as well as in Daman,and Dadra and Nagar Haveli till Sunday morning. Kaprada in Valsad district received 60 mm rainfall while Navsari town recorded 50 mm,followed by Gandhinagar (43 mm). In Saurashtra,Surendranagar city and Lakhtar (in Surendranagar district) received 20 mm rainfall each. Chotila (Rajkot),Savarkundla (Amreli) and Talaja (Bhavnagar) received 10 mm rainfall each. Ahmedabad recorded 4 mm rainfall.

The showers and overcast condition cooled temperatures across the state with none of the 23 Meteorological stations recording maximum temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. The highest temperature of 39.6 degrees Celsius was recorded at Idar in Sabarkantha district.
