Precautionary alert across Gujarat after Delhi Red Fort blasts

The message from the State Control Room (SCR) stated that in light of a car explosion at Gate No 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station in Delhi, where several people were killed and injured, all district Superintendents, Commissioners and Range IGs were being asked to take precautionary measures. The recommended action included patrolling and bandobast of sensitive areas, checking of viral installations, setting up checkpoints and vehicle-checking teams at the police station level and to maintain law and order.

A Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) rank officer posted in a major city of Gujarat, told The Indian Express, “We have already sent out teams of the Dog Squad, Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and the Special Operations Group (SOG) to check vital installations and have established a combing night. We have further set up check points at entry and exit points of the city and are carrying out vehicle checking, especially of abandoned vehicles.”

Further, in major cities, the police may also see fit to disperse crowds of people as a precautionary measure.

The Indian Express also spoke to the Superintendent of Police (SP) of a major district, who said, “We immediately began checking for any suspicious persons in our jurisdiction. A checking of all hotels, dharamshalas, dhabas is underway. Vehicle checking is also underway.”

The officer added, “We have kept naka bandhi (check points) and have increased the police presence across the district with personnel from all police stations out in the field.”

A collector in a border district said while the alert is meant for the police to take action, close coordination was being carried out between the Collectorate, police and the military and paramilitary stations in the border areas.

In a statement on X, Gujarat DGP Vikas Sahay said, “Even though the exact reason for the blast in the Red Fort area of Delhi has not been confirmed so far, Gujarat Police is vigilant and on high alert. I appeal to all citizens also to be vigilant and inform local police if anything suspicious comes to notice. Please stay away from rumours and believe only on verified information.”
