The state ATS on Wednesday arrested a 23-year-old man who had allegedly faked the identity of a Border Security Force (BSF) officer and was living near a BSF camp at Amalpur village in Gandhinagar. ATS chief Ajay Tomar told reporters that the man was identified as Ravindra Babu Chaudhary,a resident of Chopra taluka in Jalgaon district of Maharashtra. He is a college dropout. Tomar said that during a raid on his rented house,the ATS recovered two BSF uniforms,three fake I-cards of BSF,fake smart card of BSF canteen,a fake I-card of Director of Fisheries Department (Gujarat),two atlases,maps of India,diaries,bank slips,one camera,and four SIM cards belonging to Jammu & Kashmir and North-Eastern states. According to the ATS,Babu was trying to enter the BSF head office when a personnel stopped him. When he was questioned about his whereabouts,he couldnt give satisfactory answers. The matter was immediately reported to senior officers in Gandhinagar,who alerted the ATS. There are two BSF battalions in Gandhinagar. Tomar said preliminary investigations revealed that when Babu met BSF personnel of the first battalion,he would claim he belonged to the second group and vice versa. He had introduced himself to his landlord as the driver of a senior BSF officer posted in Gandhinagar. Tomar did not rule out the possibility that Babu might be trying to gather details about BSF and might even have conducted a recce of coastal areas using the fake card of the Fisheries department. He said they would probe in detail whether his stay here was funded and how did he arrange several fake identity cards. The ATS is also procuring call details of his cellphone.
