POCSO court sentences father & son to rigorous imprisonment for rape of 16-yr-old girl

A special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) court in Narmada district on Tuesday sentenced a father and son to rigorous imprisonment for the alleged kidnapping and rape of a minor last April. The court sentenced the main accused to 10 years and his father to three years of rigorous imprisonment.

The prosecution case was based on the FIR lodged in April 2023, based on a complaint filed by the 16-year-old girl’s father. According to the FIR, the son had lured and enticed the 16-year-old girl to elope with him and kidnapped her. It added that he raped the girl multiple times and was aided by his father, who has also been accused of sexually assaulting the minor.

In all, the prosecution examined 13 witnesses while also producing scientific, digital and forensic evidence in the case.

The court, besides sentencing the accused, also imposed a fine of Rs 17,000 on the son and Rs 6,000 on the father. The court further awarded a compensation of Rs 50,000 to the girl.
