The Parents Association of (Medical,Dental and Paramedical) colleges plans to move the High Court over the issue of representation of parents and students in the Fee Regulatory Committee. The R J Shah Fee Regulatory Committee formed by the order of the Supreme Court was restructured in May 2008. Meanwhile, students and parents bodies have agitated each time there has been a fee hike announced for any stream without much effect till date. The committee currently has representatives of the state government, college management as well as a retired advocate. Right from the time of the constitution of the committee, the students and the parents have been unhappy over the issue of representation. Despite being major stakeholders to be affected by the fee structure, parents and students bodies have no representation in the committee. Executive Council member of the Gujarat University,Manish Doshi, said,We have made over 100 representations to the committee in the last five years. Over the years there has been no provision for the major stakeholders to be included in the committee. Nayan Shah,General Secretary of the Parents Association, said: Even the new Fee Regulatory Committee does not have any representative from the students or the parents side while we are the ones who will actually pay the fees. We have made representations several times and have also written a letter to the committee this time again demanding that we be included in the decision-making process. Shah said,If we see no results,we will go to the High Court and if need be to the Supreme Court as well.
