The walk that began from Sardar Baug and concluded at the AMC heritage building, covered areas like the district panchayat building from where Patel gave a speech to students during the Quit India movement, the district courts where he practiced and the Gujarat Club where he and Mahatma Gandhi met for the first time, among others.
“Most of the municipal teachers for whom the walk was organised had no clue about majority of these sites and their relevance and how they are associated with Sardar Patel. For instance, on August 1947, the biggest flag was hoisted at the Lal Darwaza ground. These teachers will now train others to make them aware about facts and places associated with Sardar Patel,” historian Rizwan Qadri, who accompanied the teachers, said. Over 50 teachers joined the walk.
A similar walk was organised on October 9 from AMC heritage building to the nearby Victoria Garden as a part of celebrations of the 100th year of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel as the president of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.
