The Opposition leader in Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC),Chirag Zaveri, has alleged that the state government has been unjust to Vadodara by not providing funds that had been promised in lieu of the octroi duty, which was abolished in 2007.
Zaveri,in his letter to Chief Minister Narendra Modi, has said that the state government has failed to give Rs 200 crore, which was promised at the time of octroi abolition.
As the state is celebrating its Swarnim Jayanti,it is necessary to release this grant so that Vadodara can also initiate works to make the city better. The administrative wing is mum over the whole issue, Zaveri stated in his letter.
Moreover, the issue of pending bills for Panam agreement has also been raked up by the Opposition. The Panam pact was jointly signed by the state government and VMC. But the state government is now out of the deal and the VMC is served with the commercial charges for usage of water. The total bill is Rs 438 crore and the state government is firm on recovering the amount along with the interest. If the state government forcefully recovers the amount, the VMC will be in deep financial crisis and it will be difficult to generate funds for maintenance of the city, Zaveri said further in the letter.
