No scope of recovery from ‘conman’ Patel in fraud cases: Cops
Patel was previously booked in four cases, three FIRs in Naroda (Ahmedabad) in 2017, Raopura (Vadodara) in 2019, Bayad (Aravalli) in 2019, and one civil case in 2019 under the Negotiable Instruments Act in local courts of Vyara and Anand.

Kiran Patel, accused of posing as an official from the Prime Minister’s Office, was Sunday sent from Ahmedabad to Srinagar where he will continue to be in judicial custody.
Labeled as a conman amid several cases against him, he was brought to Ahmedabad from Srinagar earlier this month in an alleged property fraud of Rs 15 crore, officials said. Patel’s arrest last month in Jammu and Kashmir drew wide attention. Since then, FIRs have been filed against him in other cases, too.
In Ahmedabad, police said there was no scope for recovery of any amount from Patel as he did not have enough money in his bank account or any property. Chaitanya Mandlik, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, told The Indian Express: “Patel’s remand in the last case ended on Friday. He was taken to Srinagar on Sunday.”
“There is no scope of recovery of any amount as he has hardly any balance in his account or property. The house that he had rented in Ghodasar is also now vacated, and the children have been taken to a relative’s house in Vadodara,” stressed Mandlik.
The latest FIR against Patel was filed on April 17 in Ahmedabad. He was accused of committing fraud of Rs 80 lakh in a deal related to the sale of his ancestral property in Ahmedabad’s Narol area. He was sent to police custody by a local court till April 21.
Earlier, two more FIRs were filed against Patel. One of these was filed over the alleged fraud of property worth Rs 15 crore in Shilaj area of the city. He was brought to the city in this case from Srinagar on April 8.
In the same case, Patel’s wife Malini Patel was also booked and is in judicial custody. The other FIR was filed against him in a case of impersonation, cheating, and criminal breach of trust, on April 15.
A week ago, an application for regular bail was filed for Mailini by their advocate Nisar Vaidya.
“That application was applied in the Metropolitan magistrate court in Gheekanta, and was rejected. I have again applied for Mailini’s bail in the city sessions court in Bhadra. The hearing is on Tuesday,” the lawyer said.
Vaidya said he will be applying for bail in all three new cases filed against Patel within 15 days. “After fifteen days, the court will ask for a chargesheet to be filed for the cases. One bail application also has to be filed for the case for which he is in judicial custody in Srinagar, which will probably be next week,” said Vaidya.
