Inaugurating the first overseas campus of National Forensic Science University (NFSU) at Jinja in Uganda, Union External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar Wednesday termed it as an example of “practical cooperation between the two nations”. The Union Minister said the NFSU was the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and added that that it is the first government university of India opening a campus abroad. Jaishankar also added that as a Member of Parliament from the state of Gujarat, where the NFSU is located, it is a particular pleasure for me to see this university take the lead. During the inauguration ceremony, Lukia Isanga Nakadama, Deputy Prime Minister of Uganda, Vincent Ssempijja, Minister of Defence & Veteran Affairs, General Odongo Jeje, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Uganda and J M Vyas, the founder Vice-Chancellor of NFSU, were present, stated an official release here. Lukia Isanga Nakadama thanked the Government of India for opening the branch of NFSU at Uganda. The campus aims to provide scientific aids in the investigation and detection of various nature of sophisticated crimes committed in Uganda. The NFSU Uganda campus will be spread over 130 acres. Dr. J M Vyas said the campus in Uganda is the 10th Campus of NFSU within just two and half years of establishment of the university in October, 2020. Vyas said the NFSU will provide education in Forensic Science and allied subjects for students of Uganda, LEA associated officials. NFSU will start with PG and Master courses in this academic year. The courses will fulfil the requirement of highly skilled Forensic Experts to Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs), Wildlife Authorities in furthering Criminal Justice Delivery system in Uganda. A bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was inked between India and Uganda for setting up the first-ever campus of NFSU outside India. This MoU was signed by Jaishankar and Vincent Ssempijja, Minister of Defence & Veteran Affairs, Uganda in August 2022, stated an official release here.
