The newly-formed district of Vav-Tharad got its first Collector and District Development Officer (DDO), on Tuesday. The Gujarat government’s General Administration Department issued a notification appointing J S Prajapati and Kartik Jivani as the new Collector and DDO of the 34th district respectively.
The district also got its first Superintendent of Police as the Gujarat government transferred Botad SP Chintan Teraiya to the ex-cadre post. Meanwhile, SP Dharmendra Sharma of the State Cybercrime Cell was transferred in as the new SP of Botad district.
As of now, Prajapati is serving as the District Development Officer of Morbi. A state civil service officer, Prajapati was promoted to Indian Administrative Service in 2014.
Jivani, on the other hand, is a Gujarat-cadre IAS officer of 2021 batch. He is currently posted as Project Administrator of Tribal Sub Plan in Valsad district.
The two key district administrative officers are expected to take charge of the new postings shortly.
On January 1, the Gujarat government had announced the bifurcation of Banaskantha district into two — Banaskantha and Vav-Tharad. The Gujarat government had notified the bifurcation last week.
The new Vav-Tharad district will have eight talukas whereas Banaskantha will have 10. Vav-Tharad, which shares an international border with Pakistan, will have its district headquarters in Tharad.
