Neerja A Gupta becomes first female vice-chancellor of Gujarat University

Before being appointed as the V-C of Sanchi University on February 22,2021, she was the principal of Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan's Sheth RG PG College of Arts and Commerce in Ahmedabad from 2009-2021.

The Gujarat government has announced Neerja A Gupta as the 18th vice-chancellor of Gujarat University in Ahmedabad.

The University gets its first female vice-chancellor in over 70 years since its establishment in 1949.

Neerja A Gupta (59), who is currently the V-C of Sanchi University of Buddhist-Indic Studies, Sanchi, Madhya Pradesh, has been appointed for a period of three years with effect from the date she takes over the charge of the office or till she attains the age of 65, whichever is earlier, the notification issued by the Education Department on Friday read.

Before being appointed as the V-C of Sanchi University on February 22,2021, she was the principal of Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan’s Sheth RG PG College of Arts and Commerce in Ahmedabad from 2009-2021. Prior to this, she was a lecturer at the English department of the institute from 1998 till 2009.

She will take over from Himanshu Pandya, who completes his second term as V-C this month.
