MSU Syndicate members write to V-C to hold meeting

Syndicate members of the MS University (MSU) have written a letter to the Vice-Chancellor asking him to convene a Syndicate meeting at the earliest.

Syndicate members of the MS University (MSU) have written a letter to the Vice-Chancellor asking him to convene a Syndicate meeting at the earliest.

In the letter, some of the Syndicate members have said that despite repeated requests,Vice-Chancellor Prof Ramesh Goyal has not called a Syndicate meeting to form committees.

Earlier, the Syndicate members had given the V-C 35 days to hold a meeting but nothing was done. Sources said this has adversely affected development of the university due to lapse of grants in many departments and slowing down of all existing projects.

The last meeting, which took place on March 6,2009,did not have items related to the formation of the committee, the members said.

The letter stated: “The university has called meetings of important committees like Purchase Committee,Finance and Establishment Committee,Investment Committee and Building Committee after expiry of their extension period of April 10,2009,granted by the Syndicate, showing scant regard to The University Act,Statutes,Ordinances and Authorities (which are elected bodies) like Senate and Syndicate.”

The members said that in the past, there use to be more than one meeting of the Purchase Committee as well as the Syndicate to facilitate the purchases and utilisation of grants in time.

When asked why the university has not called the meeting,Prof Goyal said: “During the March 6 meeting,we had discussed about the formation of the committees. We will have it as an item on the agenda in the Syndicate meeting scheduled on April 28,2009.”
