The movie Amir=Garib,to be premiered on October 9 in the Town Hall Auditorium, has all the essentials of a Bollywood flick, but one fundamental element sound. The movie has been made by deaf and dumb people.
Ahmedabad Behra Munga Mitra Mandal, the association of deaf and dumb, has made this two-hour-long movie in sign language. As kids,we never enjoyed watching television the way others did. This movie is an attempt to give the deaf and dumb community a chance to have a wholesome entertainment without any external help, said G N A Munshi, the Vice-President of the association and the director of the movie. As he shared his thoughts, his hands and facial muscles moved intricately while a traslator kept translating the whole thing in verbal language. The organisation has been working for the deaf and dumb people in Ahmedabad for the last 45 years.
Through the movie,we are trynig to make a point that one should never give up. One should never sit idle, said Karishma Kishorekumar Lamba, the lead actress in the movie who has also been to Las Vegas to participate in an international deaf and dumb beauty paegeant. We want to make bigger movies for the all-India deaf and dumb community, said Yasin Chippa, the comedian in the movie who got his inspiration from Kader Khan. Asked how it feels to have never heard any sound in his life,Munshi said,The picture of God which you see on that wall does not have a voice. Does it?
