To maintain harmony and law and order during the upcoming festivals of Holi and Ramzan, Director General of Police, Gujarat, Vikas Sahay, has directed monitoring of social media to prevent misinformation and rumours.
In a statewide meeting of Commissioners and Superintendents via video conferencing on Wednesday, Sahay asked officials to ensure coordination and cooperation by holding meetings with peace committees at local level. He also asked city and district police chiefs to maintain necessary vigilance by interacting with people from various communities in different areas. This year Dhuleti falls on a Friday.
As per a statement from the Police Bhavan on Wednesday, Sahay stressed on necessary arrangements to be made at crowded places and religious sites as well as beefing up security in sensitive areas.
Sahay also ordered intensive checking of vehicles across the state and asked local officers to make sure that police presence was felt to maintain a sense of security among the people.
Meanwhile, on Thursday and Friday, on the occasion of Holi and Dhuleti festivals, every garden under the Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (SRFDCL) will be closed till 5 pm. Atal Bridge will be closed for the public till 5 pm only on March 14 (Dhuleti), a statement from the SRFDCL said Wednesday.
Special trains
The Western Railway Wednesday said it will run special trains at special fares between Bandra and Ahmedabad to meet the demand and for the convenience of passengers on Holi.
There will be four trips of the 09091/09092 Bandra Terminus-Ahmedabad-Bandra Terminus Holi Special. Train No. 09091 Bandra Terminus-Ahmedabad Superfast Special will depart from Bandra Terminus at 4.25 pm on both Thursday and Friday and reach Ahmedabad at 12.30 am the next day. Train no. 09092 Ahmedabad-Bandra Terminus Superfast Special will depart from Ahmedabad at 6.20 am on Friday and Saturday and reach Bandra Terminus at 3 pm on the same day. These trains will stop at Borivali, Palghar, Vapi, Valsad, Udhna, Bharuch, Vadodara and Anand stations.
