Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate to the nation two new indigenously developed reactors at Kakrapar Nuclear Power Plant in Tapi district on February 22. He will also lay the foundation stone of the PM MItra Park at Navsari, in addition to virtually inaugurating or laying the foundation of various development projects of the Surat Municipal Corporation.
The two new reactors — unit 3 and unit 4 — at Kakrapar Nuclear Power Plant have a capacity of 700 Megawatts (MW) each. One of the two new plants is already operational while the other will soon be in the coming days.
The atomic power station already has two operational reactors — Unit 1 and 2— each at 220 MWs. “Uranium is used as fuel for power generation through different processes. The two new plants in Unit 3 and 4 are hundred per cent indigenous. Once both the power plants get operational, the total power production capacity of the power plant will go up to 1,440 MWs,” an official said on the condition of anonymity.
At Navsari, where the PM will lay the foundation of PM Mega Integrated Textile Regions and Apparel (Mitra) park at Vansi Borsi village of Navsari, attempts have been made by the administration and BJP party leaders to gather over one lakh people at the venue.
Sources said through the park, the state government is expected to get an investment of around Rs 10,000 crore and generate around two to three lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities.
The PM Mitra park is around 55 kms from the Surat airport.
From Navsari, PM Modi will also virtually inaugurate development projects worth Rs 1,130 crore and lay the foundation of different projects worth Rs 2,112 crore, including a new solid waste management plant built at Rs 345 crore in Umbher village.
On Wednesday, SMC got the Centre’s nod for the project. The new plant will have a capacity to process around 3,000 metric tonnes of solid waste.
