Resuming their arguments,Zakia Jafri’s lawyers told a metropolitan court Thursday that the Narendra Modi government deliberately did not take action to control violence in the wake of Godhra train carnage on February 27,2002.

Zakia, widow of former Congress MP Ahsan Jafri who was killed by rioters at his Gulberg Society residence in Ahmedabad during the post-Godhra riots, has filed a petition challenging the SC-appointed SIT’s clean chit to Modi and others in connection with the riots.

Zakia’s lawyer Mihir Desai told the court the city police had received information that there was a truck laden with weapons at Rakhiyal in Ahmedabad. He said this information was furnished by the then police commissioner P C Pande in the court in 2011.

Desai told the court that Modi had used mobile phones issued to his aides like his personal assistant O P Singh,Tanmay Mehta,Sanjay Bhavsar and A K Sharma, but the SIT deliberately did not take their statements. Desai also said the SIT did not investigate how Modi and his bureaucrats were located near Gulberg Society on February 27,before they flew to Vadodara. The next hearing is scheduled for July 18.
