“Mr Prime Minister,I want to know, who changed the geography of India so that your own village is not a part of India… who split India…,” he said referring to partition and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s village where he was born, which is now in Pakistan.

“Why is China squatting at the doors of India? Geography of India is being changed even by the UPA government who wants to divert the historic Dandi Heritage Route by thirty kilometres,” Modi said quoting from a Government of India letter to his office.

He said,“Six months back, your government wrote a letter to me suggesting that when building the Dandi heritage route,if we take a 30-km detour from the path walked by Mahatma Gandhi,it would be convenient; You abandoned Gandhi and now your are changing his path? You changed geography and you are giving lessons in history and geography.”

He said the Centre was still describing the 1857 Freedom Movement as “mutiny” in textbooks. He asked why the government had forgotten many of those imprisoned in Andaman and Nicobar in their fight for freedom.

…mixes up history again

Nava Roza: The Gujarat Chief Minister was red-faced at one stage when he mixed up revolutionary leader Shyamji Krishna Verma with the Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee. “Who twisted history? Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee established the India House right under the nose of the British in London. He had said,‘Take my ashes to a free India after my death’. His ashes were in Geneva for 73 years. Pandit Nehru should have sent somebody to fetch them…the ashes came to India…Mr prime minister, this work you did not do,this was my good fortune. I went to Geneva and brought Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee’s ashes on my shoulders),” Modi repeated over and over again towards the end of his speech.
