Not giving possession of a marriage hall in time after a person had booked it in advance for his daughters marriage made the hall authorities pay him Rs 2,500 as compensation for the mental harassment caused to him.
The Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum of Ahmedabad City passed an order in this regard while directing the authorities of Satavish Dasha Porvad Hall situated near Swastik Cross Roads to pay the amount along with Rs 750 towards legal expenses to a Sabarkantha-based medical practitioner Dr Rajnikant Dave.
Dave got his daughter married at a function held at the hall in February last year. He had booked the hall in advance for two days in the month of December 2008 after depositing Rs 9,000. He had got the hall booked for February 21 and 22.
On the night of February 20,as per the pre-decided conditions,Dave had demanded possession of the hall for preparations. However,he found that the authorities had given the hall on rent to a saree company for a sale. After altercation with the authorities Dave could get possession of the hall only next day at 12 noon. Dave lodged a police complaint also against them.
Subsequently,Dave filed a consumer suit in the Ahmedabad City Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum through his lawyer Atit Thakore.
While announcing its order,the consumer forum directed the hall authorities to pay compensation to Dave for the mental harassment he was subjected to by them.
